Development of elastic–plastic model of additively produced titanium for personalised endoprosthetics

Abstract This study presents a model for Ti6Al4V alloy produced by applying electron beam melting as continuum media with orthotropic elastic and plastic properties its application in total hip replacement (THR). The exhibits three Young’s moduli, shear Poisson’s ratios six coefficients describing the Hill yield criterion. Several uniaxial tension torsion experiments subsequent data processing were performed to evaluate coefficients. typical values obtained ratio 121–124 MPa, 37–42 0.25–0.26, respectively. A comparison of experimental curves those finite element analysis revealed good correlation maximum error 9.5%. simulation personalised pelvic implant THR manufactured from material proved mechanical capability successfully withstand applied loads.
